The concept of weekdays was created based on the regular cycles of daily life and astronomical phenomena.

The history of weekdays can be traced back to about 4,000 years ago in Babylon, where people observed the cycles of the sun, moon, planets, and other celestial bodies and matched them with a seven-day week. Different cultures, such as Greece, Rome, Hinduism, and Islam, have also created their own systems of weekdays, with variations in the names and orders of the days.

For example, in English-speaking countries, the names of the weekdays are based on Roman mythology, with each day named after a planet or a god. Sunday is named after the sun, Monday after the moon, Tuesday after the god of war Mars, Wednesday after the god of commerce Mercury, Thursday after the god of thunder Jupiter, Friday after the goddess of love and beauty Venus, and Saturday after the god of agriculture Saturn.

In Korea, the names of the weekdays have been influenced by Christianity, so the same names used in Western cultures are used. Before that, there were ten days named after the sun, moon, fire, wood, metal, water, earth, fire, and heaven. These were represented by the Korean characters "일" (il), "월" (wol), "화" (hwa), "수" (su), "목" (mok), "금" (geum), "토" (to), "일" (il), and "천" (cheon).
